Laser Treatments

Laser treatment is performed for many conditions including retinal diseases, glaucoma and after cataract surgery clouding. Our laser treatments are usually performed as an outpatient procedure in the office and some treatments will require dilation of the eye. The actual laser treatment itself takes only about 15 minutes

Our goal is to keep you comfortable before, during and after each procedure. We do numb your eye to avoid pain. Before we begin, a contact lens is placed on the eye. The lens is removed after treatment. After the procedure your vision may be blurry. It may take several hours or several days for your vision to clear.

After any laser treatment your eye may feel scratchy or irritated for several hours. This can usually be managed by keeping the eye closed and using over the counter artificial tears. Any pain can be managed by Tylenol and regular activities for the most part can be resumed by the next day.

Retina

Laser treatments for macular degeneration are done with the infusion of a light-sensitive drug and the use of a cold laser. The laser used for this procedure has a special wave length, which only affects the drug and spares all surrounding tissue. The use of this laser is restricted to certain types of macular degeneration.

During the laser procedure, the doctor uses a very bright light to see the area of the retina being treated. As a result, the vision may be blurry for several hours following the treatment. Depending on the type and amount of laser treatment performed, it may take several hours or a few days for the vision to return to what it was prior to the treatment.
